PROVIDING LIVING AND HEALTH SUPPORT SERVICES TO ENABLE RURAL SENIOR RESIDENTS TO "AGE IN PLACE"
THE SENIOR HAMLET is located on Lopez Island in the San Juan Archipelago, in Washington State. Lopez Island is accessible by Washington State Ferry, small airplanes, and marine vessels.
The Senior Hamlet is designed with the concept of Aging in Place in mind.
Aging in Place is based on the principle that members of the large and growing seniors population can remain where they live for as long as they are able. The key to the concept is to provide housing and healthcare alternatives that enable seniors to downsize to a well-organized community with support services provided as needed.
Until now, there have been no dedicated facilities on Lopez Island to provide integrated living healthcare support and 24-hour care for our senior population. Traditional assisted living models with full nursing/food facilities and other high cost services are not affordable for rural communities like Lopez Island. Accordingly, Lopez Housing Options (LOHO), a nonprofit organization developed an innovative solution designated as THE SENIOR HAMLET to address this need and the economic realities.
Lopez Housing Option hopes THE SENIOR HAMLET will be a potential model for the numerous rural communities across the country seeking ways to deal with their large and growing senior population.
The Senior Hamlet Office is located in the Gathering Place. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am to 12 noon.
Lopez Island Hospice & Home Support's office is located in the Gathering Place. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 1 pm to 3pm.
The Cottage Model Unit is open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 12 noon.
